Problem

Is Visere Captura's license a Software-As-A-Service (SAAS) model or a one time purchase and I own it forever?

Answer

The short answer is: once purchased, you own the version of the software you purchased forever and you can use it indefinitely.

At Pictomic, our mission is to maximize the utility of Visere Captura for photographers worldwide. Our team of technologists and developers is dedicated to creating solutions that empower photographers everywhere. We take immense pride in having as many photographers as possible use Visere Captura.

License Details

Our licensing scheme is designed to make Visere Captura affordable for photographers globally while ensuring the continued maintenance, development, and enhancement of the software. Here's how it works:

  • Upon purchasing the software, you receive one year of upgrades and live technical support (via all communication methods).
  • At the end of the first year, you have two options:
    1. Purchase another year of software upgrades and support, continuing your benefits.
    2. Opt not to purchase additional support. In this case, the software will still run indefinitely, but you won't receive upgrades or live technical support. However, you can use our Confluence page for troubleshooting. We strive to make this resource as helpful and informative as possible.
  • The license for Visere Captura is tied to a unique user and computer. If you need to transfer the license to another computer, contact our Technical Support Team for a free transfer, regardless of whether your license is active or expired.
  • If you skip a few years of maintenance but decide to renew later, you have two options:
    1. Pay for the maintenance retroactively for the lapsed period plus one additional year (rounded up to full years).
    2. Purchase a new license at full price if it's more cost-effective.

We strongly recommend maintaining an active license to ensure continuous access to the latest versions, bug fixes, and technical support.

Licensing Example

Suppose you purchase Visere Captura on January 1, 2025.

  • You will have access to version upgrades and technical support until January 1, 2026.
  • If you decide not to renew maintenance in 2027, you can continue using any version released before January 1, 2026.
  • If you decide to upgrade in July 2028, the upgrade will cover full-year increments from the original purchase date:
    • Your upgrade will extend the license to January 1, 2029.
    • Since your initial purchase covered maintenance until January 1, 2027, you will pay for two years of upgrades (from January 1, 2027, to January 1, 2029).
  • If you wait five years to upgrade, purchasing a new version may be more cost-effective than paying retroactively. In this case, buying a new license would be the better option.
