Problem

Is Visere Captura's license a Software-As-A-Service (SAAS) model or a one time purchase and I own it forever?

Answer

The short answer is: once purchased, you own the version of the software you purchased forever and you can use it indefinitely.

At Pictomic our goal is to maximize to use of Visere Captura.  At our core, we are a team of technologist and developers working on solutions to help photographers world wide.  There's nothing more satisfying than to have as many photographers around the world use Visere Captura.

Our licensing scheme attempts to maximize the ability of photographers world-wide to afford Visere Captura, while supporting the maintenance, development, and enhancement of Visere Captura.  Our licensing scheme works as follows:
  1. From the time you purchase the software, Pictomic provides one year of upgrades and live technical support (via all communication methods).
  2. At the end of one year you have two options:
    1. You purchase another year of software upgrades and support.  If you purchase the additional support then you go back to 1.
    2. You do not purchase the additional year of upgrades and support.  In this case, the software will continue to run indefinitely.  You can continue using the software, but you will not be able to install upgrades or get any live technical support.  Support wise, you are more than welcome to use our Confluence page to troubleshoot any issue you may encounter.  Pictomic will strive to make our Confluence page to be as helpful and informative as possible.
  3. The license in Visere Captura is bound to a unique user and computer.  You will need to contact our Technical Support Team to have the license moved to another computer.  We will provide a license move free of charge for all licenses, expired and active.
  4. If you decide to not purchase maintenance for one year and the second year you decide to purchase the maintenance, you have two options:
    1. You can pay the maintenance retroactively, for the missing time that the maintenance was not active + 1 year (rounded up to full year numbers).
    2. Or, you can purchase a new license, at full price, if this option is less costly.
  5. We strongly recommend that customers maintain an active license at all times.  This guarantees continuous access to the latest versions and bug fixes, plus access to technical support.

Licensing Example

Assume you purchase Visere Captura on January 1st, 2025.

  1. You will have access to version upgrades and technical support until January 1st, 2026.
  2. You decide not up pay the maintenance in 2027.  At this time, you can continue using any version of Visere Captura released before January 1st, 2026.
  3. On July 2028 you decide to upgrade your Visere Captura.  The upgrade has to go in full year steps from the time of the original purchase and it is rounded up from the time you decide to upgrade.
    1. Your upgrade will provide a license that will expire on January 1st, 2029.
    2. Your initial purchase provided a license until January 1st, 2027.  That means that your upgrade cost will have to cover two years, from January 1st, 2027 to January 1st, 2029.
  4. If, instead of upgrading a year later, you decide to upgrade five years later, then the cost of purchasing a new version will be lower and you should just purchase a new version.
